     Whoa, Laredo!
    « Thread Started on Sept 5, 2008, 2:47pm »

    Out of Character
    Name: Ichilay MacGowan
    Age: 1,365,925. Seriously. *grins*
    Gender: male
    Location: the brown futon.
Misc: I take myself VERY seriously. *nods and winks*

    In Character
    Name: Laredo
    Age: 16
    Type: Shapeshifter
    Gen: Generation 2.
    Ally: Gen 1.
    Gender: Male
Animals: Grizzly bear, red appaloosa stud, male red-sided eclectus.
Personality: Laredo is a born wanderer, so even his thoughts seem to flit from place to place, much like a sparrow. For the most part he is very calm and easy going. Almost to a fault. He is very simple minded, and often has trouble discerning between truth and fiction. Terribly gullible, he readily believes what he is told, as long as it is done with a straight face. Even though he is, to all appearances, an idiot, Laredo is kind hearted and does not have a mean thought very often. When he does have ill feelings towards another, he feels terribly guilty, and often tries as hard as he can to make amends. He is slow to anger, yet when he does get pushed to that point, he is slow to forgive. As he is simple minded, he has a very simple set of right and wrong. If someone crosses from one section to the other, it confuses him. Example: His best friend steals an apple from a farm they are walking by. Stealing is wrong to Laredo, but his friend is good. Therefore stealing by friends must be good, too. Yet he can only come to a conclusion like this after much thought. Not usually pensive, Laredo loves to be happy and make other people or shapeshifters happy, too. He has a hard time telling the difference between the three groups, shifter, drifter, and normal, so the fight between the shifters and drifters confuses him.
Appearance: If one were to look up the word "nondescript" in the dictionary, there would be a picture of Laredo. His hair is a classic dark brown, and worn in a hairstyle which resembles a mop viciously attacked by a rabid squirrel. Rarely ever brushed, his hair is constantly falling into his eyes, and he is forever pushing the stray locks back out. His eyes, however, are a startlingly clear blue color. Light enough that in some lights it is hard to tell if they have a color or if they are white. They are the only feature about Laredo which stands out, and that is only when his eyes are cleared from their hairy brown screen. Even in animal form, his eyes are very light. He is of average height, standing a little under six feet in height. Five foot, ten inches to be exact. It is often hard to measure his height, though, because his eyes are almost always focused on his feet, and he seems to be leaning forward most of the time. His face is like a open book. It shows his emotions and feelings very plainly and clearly. Mostly, though, he wears a slightly distracted look and a smile. In bear form he is hard to tell from other grizzlies, except for his eyes. His shaggy brown fur can be compared to his hair in human form, and his eyes are almost always on the ground. He is rather large for a grizzly, and his size could be intimidating to those who do not know his gentle nature. As an ecclectus, his eyes retain the light blue coloring. His green plumage and blue wing feathers make him a very handsome bird, but there is nothing special about him other than his eyes. As a horse, however, Laredo shines. His mane and tail are black, even if they are short and wispy, as is usual in an appaloosa. His head is marked with a almost perfect white circle in the middle of his forehead, and a white splat on his nose. His ears are tipped with black fur, as well. From his head, to his shoulders, down to his hips, his fur is a rich red color. His rump is white with a splattering of red spots. Even in his horse form his eyes remain the same strange blue, although they are slightly more common in horses with color.
History: Born and bred just the same as all the other generations, Laredo does not have much of a history. He never knew his mother, or his father. He knew that he was different from other children, but that was only because the scientists kept telling him that. Not being a generation 1, he has no idea the atrocities they faced. His life, all in all, has been pretty good. He has been fed, clothed, taken care of, and given other children to play with. Even if some of those other children did make fun of him and call him "stupid". But Laredo even knew that. The only way he managed to escape the facility was quite by accident. Laredo learned early on in life that shut doors could either be locked, or able to be opened. It just so happened one day that while Laredo was off playing by himself, something he did often, someone forgot to keep a close eye on him. Wandering around the enclosed area, Laredo discovered that one of the doors which led "Out" was left cracked open. Pushing on it, he learned that this door, for whatever reason, was no longer locked to him. Without pausing to consider what he was doing, Laredo walked out of the door and down the hallway. Coming to another door, he pushed it, and it, too opened. Thus, Laredo had "escaped" from the scientists. He more or less fell into the shifter's laps, and there he has stayed.
Misc: Laredo is easily distracted by shiny objects, and often picks up colored strings and bits of metal. Even small rocks find their way into his pockets. Almost as soon as he puts something in his pockets, he forgets it all over again.
Roleplay Sample: The brown haired boy wandered down the street, his arms held out like airplane wings. At first, he seemed to be trying to walk a straight line, his eyes focused on his feet. Diving and swooping around, he seemed to be chasing his shadow. Even though the boy seemed to be in his later teens, his face showed pure enjoyment of his game. Eventually he came to a crashing halt against the wall. Drawing back and blinking, he looked up at the wall, his forehead creased in confusion. Rubbing his forehead, he shook his head as though to clear it, blinking his strange, light blue eyes.

"Well, Laredo, that was smart. Who put that wall there?" The boy asked, seeming to talk to himself.

Running his fingers through his tangled brown hair, he looked down to the ground again. Gasping, he bent down and picked something up. It was a small piece of glass, green in color, and slightly rounded at the edges. Holding it up to the sun, he grinned foolishly to himself, turning the glass all around. The sunlight caught in the glass and reflected, making green lights seem to dance all around him. The boy grinned again and moved to stick the glass in his pocket when he jerked his hand back and exclaimed suddenly. The piece of glass and a few drops of blood fell to the ground. Looking hard at his hand, he scowled at the blood welling up from a cut inflicted from the glass.

"That wasn't very nice!" The boy, Laredo, said, kicking at the glass on the ground.

As soon as he did so, it caught the light again, and he bent to pick it up. It was almost as though he had forgotten what had just happened to him. Sticking the glass back into his pocket, he seemed to remember his hand being cut, and looked at it critically. It was not very deep, but it was bleeding a lot. Luckily, Laredo knew just where to go in order to have it taken care of.

Making his way through the streets and alleys, he came to a church. Scratching on the back door, he waited, a pitiful expression on his face. Soon enough, a young nun answered the door, and peeked her head outside. Seeing Laredo, she put her hands on her hips and clucked her tongue. Showing her his hand, Laredo allowed his lower lip to quiver, and the nun seemed to relent. Motioning for him to come in, she led the way to a small office. Knocking gently on the door, she waited until she heard the "come in" summons before opening the door and giving Laredo a push inside.

"Ma Superior, it hurts!" Laredo said in a whine, walking towards the woman seated in the office, and showing her his hand.

"Ah, Laredo, what are we going to do with you? Get me the first aid kit, and we'll have you patched up in no time, good as new!" The woman said gently, and Laredo did as she told him.

    Done.
